About the game

Guess the Chain Canada is a free daily map game, a bit like Worldle or Globle but for chain stores and restaurants. Each day you see dots for every Canadian location of one chain, from Tim Hortons to Canadian Tire, and try to name it in 6 guesses. After each wrong guess you see whether your chain is the same kind of business, whether it has more or fewer locations, and how much the two maps overlap. Stuck? Ask for clues one at a time.

Some chains are everywhere; others never leave one province. Play past maps in the archive, where each map also has a page with its clues and answer, or keep going in practice mode.

How to play

  1. The map shows every Canadian location of one mystery chain: a store, restaurant, gas station, bank or liquor store.
  2. Type a chain name. Close spellings are fine: the best match is used. You get 6 guesses.
  3. After each wrong guess you see:
    • Category: ✓ same kind of business (for example both fast food), ≈ similar (both restaurants, or both shops), ✗ different.
    • Stores: ↑ the mystery chain has more locations than your guess, ↓ fewer.
    • Overlap: how much the two maps cover the same places. Press Compare to see your guess's dots in blue.
  4. Stuck? Press Get a clue as often as you like, one clue at a time: category, number of locations, year founded, headquarters province, first letter. Your shared result shows how many clues you used.
  5. A new map comes out every day at midnight, your local time. Share your result without spoiling the answer.
